Project Description
The EL Fellow will be assigned to the English Teaching Institute at Qalamoon University, in Deiratieh, approximately 60 miles north of Damascus. Based on our experience in academic year 2006-7, we expect that the EL Fellow will provide multiple services to the Institute, among them: teacher training workshops, continuous lesson observation and feedback to teachers, team teaching with the Director of the Institute, curriculum planning, development of supplementary teaching materials, writing of exams, training of teachers for a Business English class for employees of the University, development of a TOEFL program and training of TOEFL teachers, and supervision of a weekly language and culture club. Precise duties may vary depending on the needs of the University at the time, but the foregoing is a likely mix. With only 12 full-time and 8 part-time English teachers, most of them poorly trained, and 2000 English language students, the University is badly in need of help. The EL Fellow is in an excellent position to shape and improve its English program.
