Project Description
The EL Fellow will continue the work of the current Fellow at the Ministry of National Education General Directorate of Educational Technologies in Ankara. The EL Fellow will work with ministry staff in developing online courses such as the current one using OELP’s Shaping the Way We Teach English product modeled after the pilot e-course of fall 2006. S/he will also work on developing materials to go with Connect with English, another Department of State product. The EL Fellow will engage in other distance education programs, and facilitate workshops on using technology in education. Additional responsibilities may include facilitating teacher training seminars around Turkey, materials and curriculum development, website contributions, and CALL.

Project Objectives
The Turkish Ministry of National Education based in Ankara serves the education needs of the students from preschool to the completion of high school throughout the country. Over 12 million students are affected by the materials produced and training provided by the ministry. Having an EL Fellow placed in the ministry will be key to future relations and collaboration on country-wide projects.

About the Host Institution
The General Directorate of Educational Technologies is one of the 44 units of the Turkish Ministry of National Education, which serves over 42,000 schools throughout Turkey. It is responsible for adapting and applying the most recent technologies into the Turkish education system. It provides teachers and students with the latest technological developments, setting an effective learning environment. The General Directorate of Educational Technologies also conducts research, evaluation, and develops implementation plans to establish an efficient relationship between formal education and open-distance learning. It processes official placement and graduation exams as well as enables data processing through central and regional offices of the Ministry of National Education.
