Project Description
The EL Fellow will work at the Department of English Language Teaching with no more than four preps per semester (4 different courses) to total no more than 20 contact hours per week for the duration of the 10-month grant. In the Department of English Language Teaching, the EL Fellow will teach classes such as: methodology, linguistics, speaking and other. Additional responsibilities might include facilitating teacher training seminars for in-service teachers in the School of Foreign Languages at Dokuz Eylul or at the Department of American Studies as appropriate.

Project Objectives
There has not been an EL Fellow placed in Izmir in at least 10 years.  Having an EL Fellow at the Department of English Language Teaching at Dokuz Eylul would provide a good base from which to reach out not only to other departments at Dokuz Eylul, but also to other universities in Izmir, one of which houses a successful American Corner. 

About the Host Institution
Dokuz Eylul University was founded in 1982 and has over 40,000 students. The Department of English Language Teaching houses approximately 600 students. Education is 5 years including preparatory class. For those who pass the exam, the education period is 4 years. Since 2003 evening classes are also available. The Department of English Language Teaching provides a B.A. program in English Language Teaching. The Department aims to train the teachers who are going to teach English courses. For the graduates working alternatives vary, for example they can work both in state and private schools, and they can also work in the areas of banking, tourism, and translation. In the department, there are 1 full professor, 6 assistant professors, 7 lecturers, and 3 research assistants.
