Project Description
The Yekaterinburg consular district is home to a significant Muslim population. Working in close coordination with ETC, the EL Fellow will be responsible for ELT teacher training across the vast Urals region, to support public affairs programming related to education and English teaching. The primary institution will be the Ministry of Education Institute for the Development of Regional Education (IRRO). Secondary institutions will include the Teacher Training College and the International Relations Institute. At IRRO, the EL Fellow will give seminars and workshops to teachers from the surrounding Sverdlovsk region, covering topics such as methodology, civics education, cross-cultural issues, and American studies. The EL Fellow will support ECA USG funded exchange program alumni. The EL Fellow will conduct outreach training programs in coordination with Ministry of Education retraining centers in various locations throughout the region, including Pervouralsk, Krasnoufimsk, Nizhniy Tagil, Khanty-Mansiysk, Krasnouralskiy, Perm, Magnitogorsk, Chelyabinsk, Tyumen, Izhevsk, and Tobolsk, and participate in post-funded Summer Institute of English TEFL Training and American Studies Institutes and English Language Summer Camps. Secondary institutions will be the Urals State Pedagogical University and the Institute of International Communications, where the EL Fellow will work on cross-cultural and American studies projects. The EL Fellow will also give seminars at the American Center. The EL Fellow will teach 6 hours a week at the Institute for the Development of Regional Education (IRRO), 2 hours a week at Urals State Pedagogical University, 2 hours a week at Institute of International Communications, 2 hours a week at American Center, and will work 2 hours a month for Associations. The EL Fellow will have 2 outreach trips every month, in-country program allowance funds permitting. 

Project Objectives
To support the teaching of English for professional purposes in various sectors of the community, as well as enhance curriculum and instruction at the secondary and tertiary level. 

About the Host Institution
Ministry of Education Institute for the Development of Regional Education (IRRO) is an official Ministry of Education In-Service Teachers’ Training Center that provides professional development programs for all EFL teachers in Sverdlovsk Oblast. The EL Fellow will work with the teachers from rural areas and will travel to these areas. 

The Urals State Pedagogical University is the leading Pedagogical University in the Urals area of Russia that trains teachers for Yekaterinburg, Sverdlovsk Oblast and the Urals area. The EL Fellow will work with the faculty of the Foreign Languages Department.
