Project Description
The EL Fellow will be responsible for ELT teacher training across the vast northwestern region of Russia, to support public affairs programming related to education and English teaching. The EL Fellow’s primary institution will be Herzen St. Petersburg State Pedagogical University. The EL Fellow will work with instructors from various departments, especially on teaching American studies and integrating technology into the curriculum. The EL Fellow will also work closely with SPELTA (St. Petersburg English Language Teaching Association) and the St. Petersburg Bridges NGO to organize conferences and special programs, thereby supporting USG exchange program alumni who are active in promoting mutual understanding and upgrading the teaching of American English and culture at all levels of education. Secondary institution will be the Academy of Pedagogical Mastery. The EL Fellow will conduct outreach training activities in various locations throughout the northwestern region, including Pskov, Cherepovets, Vologda, Kaliningrad, Murmansk, Petrozavodsk, Velikiy Novgorod, and Arkhangelsk and participate in post-funded Summer Institute of English TEFL Training and American Studies Institutes and English Language Summer Camps. The EL Fellow will teach at the Academy of Pedagogical Mastery, at Herzen University, at American Center, and will work for SPELTA. Secondary Projects will include American Studies, American Culture, ESP, and E-Teacher projects. The EL Fellow will have 2 outreach trips every month, in-country program allowance funds permitting. 

Project Objectives
To support the teaching of English for professional purposes in various sectors of the community, as well as enhance curriculum and instruction at the secondary and tertiary level. 

About the Host Institution
Herzen St. Petersburg State Pedagogical University is the leading Pedagogical University in Russia that trains teachers for St. Petersburg and the North Western part of Russia. The EL Fellow will work with the faculty of the Philological Department and International Institute of Innovations in Education.

The Academy of Pedagogical Mastery is an official Ministry of Education In-Service Teacher Training Center that provides professional development programs for all EFL teachers in St. Petersburg. The EL Fellow will also work with the teachers at crash courses that “convert” former engineers into teachers.
