Project Description
This is a follow up to a historic agreement with the National Education Committee (CODICEN) to promote English Teaching in the public primary schools. One additional grade is being added to the project each year so the most important issue now is to assist the development of curriculum and teacher capacity for the 5th and 6th grades to ensure the long range sustainability of the project.
Project Objectives
To promote mutual understanding through exposing 60,000-70,000 Uruguayan school children to English language learning. The project so far has gotten widespread support among parents especially in poorer communities where the Embassy has had in the past little access and influence. The Mission is competing with promises of millions of dollars in educational support from the government of Venezuela.
About the Host Institution
National Education Committee (CODICEN) is the national education council responsible for all curriculum and teacher development in Uruguay.
