The EL Fellow will focus on training teachers and teaching supervisors with the primary goal of increasing the English teaching/supervising proficiency of teachers and supervisors and, secondarily, the English-language skills of Kuwaiti students while using materials supportive of American concepts of civil society and tolerance. The Fellow will assess current levels of teaching and supervising proficiency, building on the work of the current Fellow who is conducting preliminary workshops for teachers and supervisors through Kuwait--including in conservative areas of the country, building a solid foundation for future training programs. The Fellow will assist supervisors and teachers in incorporating new methods of instruction designed to improve teacher performance and student motivation and skill. The Fellow will visit schools, observe teaching methods, and conduct in-service training for teachers. Likewise, the Fellow will conduct workshops for supervisors to encourage the incorporation of new teaching methods in the Kuwaiti public school systems. The Fellow will also work with English-teaching departments at Kuwait University, the American University of Kuwait, the Gulf University for Science and Technology and with AMIDEAST in offering teacher and supervisor training through assessments and workshops. |
