Project Description
From this hub of Siberia, the EL Fellow will travel extensively throughout a vast area that is home to over 110 higher education institutions (there are 40 universities in Novosibirsk alone). The Fellow will also work in Akademgorodok, which is a sputnik city of Novosibirsk and is a pilot site for silicon valley-style technology and research centers. Assignment of a Fellow to the Novosibirsk Technical University and the Ministry of Education training center would assist in the professional development of hundreds of teachers in this large region, including outreach to teachers from remote areas who have limited access to accurate and up-to-date information about American life and institutions. It would also provide post with an excellent opportunity for development of relations with leading educational establishments in the region and the Ministry of Education. The Fellow will also support the American centers and corners in this vast region, as well as be a link between post and the Russian educational community. The Fellow will support activities of NOVELTA, an EFL Teachers’ Association of Novosibirsk. The Fellow will also conduct a series of EFL methodology and American studies workshops to teachers from the region and neighboring regions, including Tomsk, Omsk, Barnaul, Bijsk, Krasnoyarsk, Kyzyl, Abakan, Gorno-Altaisk. The Fellow will conduct TEFL consultations at the Novosibirsk Technical University, Novosibirsk State University, Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University, Novosibirsk Railroad Academy, In-Service Teachers’ Training Institute, will make presentations at American Corner, and will work for NOVELTA. The Fellow will have 2 outreach trips every month. The responsibilities will include support of ECA USG funded exchange program alumni, Summer Institute of English TEFL Training and American Studies Institutes, Summer ENGLISH Language Camps.
