Host Institution University of Pristina, Faculty of Education Project Description
The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Office in Pristina seeks an English Language Fellow to work at the University of Pristina's Faculty of Education campus located in Prizren, Kosovo. The Faculty of Education, which replaced the former Higher Pedagogical Institute, is a new institution in the throes of implementing a new and radically different curriculum. The primary mission of this institution is to prepare the next generation of teachers. Whereas the old curriculum emphasized literature and linguistics, the new curriculum emphasized pedagogy and other applied courses. It includes courses like "Children's Literature" and "Materials Development and Design". The EL Fellow would continue to play an important role in implementing aspects of the program (e.g. teaching new courses like "Language and Culture") and helping colleagues with their new responsibilities. The EL Fellow will also continue to work with colleagues in teaching methods courses and assisting with pre-service teaching practicum. In addition to teaching, the EL Fellow will continue the good work initiated by the incumbent by working with the newly established American Corner in Prizren. This work has included giving a series of workshops on a wide array of themes, facilitating English discussion groups and supporting the American Corner in its outreach activities. The EL Fellow would also be called on to work with post on other outreach activities as needed, including efforts to integrate minority groups into the institutional and social structures emerging in Kosovo.
