AY 2006-2007 Projects - East Asia and Pacific

Vietnam, USSH (University of Social Sciences and Humanities)

Country                       Vietnam
City                             Ho Chi Minh City
Host Institution          USSH (University of Social Sciences and Humanities)

Project Description
The EL Fellow will teach and conduct workshops to improve basic language skills as well as help the faculty develop modern teaching plans and materials. USSH leaders are also keen on developing an American Studies program. The Fellow will also help mentor and design this project, targeted at exposing students to U.S. culture, history and society, in order to increase their knowledge of the U.S. and prepare them for stronger relations with young American generations in the future. In addition, the Fellow will facilitate workshops and presentations at other institutions in the consular district at least once every two months. These institutions, located in southern and central Vietnam, include regional and local universities that generally have limited opportunities to host a native English-speaking expert on campus. Through visiting these other institutions, the Us Embassy hopes to lay the foundation of enhancing English programs for future Fellows or other specialists that will be based at these schools.
