Korea, Gyeonggi Province Education Office

Country                       Korea
City                             Gyeonggi Province
Host Institution         Gyeonggi Province Education Office

Project Description
The EL Fellow will plan and conduct workshops with teachers at training institutes (pre-service and in-service), schools, and universities country-wide; integrate the American Corners project into outreach to teachers, students, and parents through cultural (theater, film, books, music) programs; introduce additional teaching materials for classroom and home use; work with Post to introduce the English Language project to the larger public through media outreach (TV, print, online).  Gyeonggi Province Education Office (GPEO) is interested in having the Fellow begin working with a target group of primary and secondary level teachers in the province. Later, the Fellow can supplement outreach to pre-service level teachers. During the current AY 2006-2007, Post is focusing primarily on the assessment of English language teaching in Korea and the Fellow will have the following goals:  to improve the awareness of the value of teaching and learning English beyond attaining high test scores; to improve the understanding of the United States among teachers, school administrators, government officials, journalists, and students;  and to increase the effectiveness of English language learning among teachers by providing opportunities to discuss and practice teaching methods and techniques, while also improving their English fluency.
