Project Description
The EL Fellow will implement the third year of a three-year project to reform English teaching in Northeast China. The Fellow will undertake the following initiatives in the 2006-07 academic year at Shenyang Normal University: organize a third English-teaching conference to solidify the concept of the importance of an annual TESOL meeting of all universities in Liaoning Province; continue the development of curriculum and assessment standards; promote teamwork among Chinese and American teachers to encourage sharing files and resources; provide teacher training for the teachers at SNU and explore extending the program to a province-wide program to help proliferate and sustain current international TESOL methodologies; develop a stronger relationship with the US consulate and local/provincial universities and students; recruit new TESOL professionals to bring in more qualified teachers; and manage the local TESOL listserv set-up to encourage communication among universities and the sharing of information on teaching hurdles/successes.
