Program Management The English Language Fellow Program for academic years 2006-2009 is administered by Georgetown University’s Center for Intercultural Education and Development (CIED). CIED is responsible for the overall program implementation including promotion and recruitment, candidate screening and nomination, and pre-departure preparation. Georgetown’s Center for Language Education and Development (CLED) and five Regional Recruitment Centers (RRCs) assist in the screening, selection and nomination process and supporting pre-departure preparation. Georgetown works in close partnership with the State Department’s Office of English Language Programs. The Office of English Language Programs works with U.S. Embassies to design programs and ensures that Fellows are supported during their service abroad. Program Timeline Throughout the year, Georgetown promotes the program, recruits highly qualified candidates, and recommends a roster of finalist candidates for each project based on the criteria for selecting Fellows. Throughout the candidate selection process, Georgetown maintains ongoing communication with each individual applicant. The Department of State selects the Fellows. In the fall, the State Department’s Office of English Language Programs works with U.S. Embassies around the world to design programs for Fellows. In the spring, Georgetown presents lists of candidates to the officials at the U.S. Embassies who, in conjunction with the Office of English Language Programs, make the final selection of Fellows. In late spring and early summer, Georgetown works with the selected Fellows and the State Department to make necessary preparations for the Fellows’ overseas postings. In August, the Georgetown Program Management team coordinates a pre-departure orientation in Washington, DC for all Fellows. Throughout the fellowship year, Georgetown provides fiscal and logistical support to Fellows, while the U.S. Embassies abroad take care of Fellows’ programmatic and support services.
