Application Instructions

Before you apply for an English Language Fellowship, please review How Do I Become a Fellow? Once you find out whether you are eligible for the Fellowship, we invite you to complete the application process. Please read all the application instructions carefully. Failure to follow instructions can delay review of your application.   • All application materials for AY 2008-2009 must be completed and submitted to Georgetown University/CIED by March 31, 2008 to receive priority consideration.
  • Complete application dossier must contain the following nine (9) items:
    • Application - Application must be completed online.
    • Resume*
    • Two one-page Lesson Plans/Teacher Training Modules*
      You are requested to provide sample lesson plans/teacher training modules that you have developed and used in your work. Each sample should be drawn from a different area of language instruction and clearly demonstrate your methodology and design. Applicants interested in teacher training should submit at least one teacher training module.
    • Statement of Purpose*
      Explain why you are applying for an English Language Fellow position. State your interests and future professional plans; include information about your attitudes and experience. Your response must not exceed 500 words.
    • Applying Fellowship Experience*
      Describe how you will apply the insights and lessons gained from your experience as an English Language Fellow to your work in the United States. How will you share your experiences with your colleagues and friends? Your response must not exceed 500 words.
    • Two Reference Letters
      At least two references must be entered through online application. Georgetown University/CIED will request Letters of Reference directly from the persons indicated in your application via an automated system that generates e-mail messages requesting Letters of Reference once you submit your complete online application. References follow a link in the e-mail that takes them to an online site where they fill in their recommendations. During the online application process, please be sure to enter current and valid e-mail addresses for the references. At the end of the process, you will receive an e-mail notification for every letter of reference that has been submitted on your behalf.
    • Graduate Transcript - Graduate transcripts must be uploaded in PDF format through online application.

In addition to the required documents, you will also be able upload the following:

    • Additional Information*
      Should capture honors, awards, leadership activities, public speaking engagements, skills (such as computer software proficiency) or any other information that may help in the evaluation of your application.
    • Professional Publications*
      Should list any professional publications which you have written or to which you have contributed.

* Documents must be uploaded in Microsoft Word format through online application.
